What is the Junior Minister of Energy?

A new, working role for one young Bahamian, created by the Ministry of Energy, Utilities & Aviation. It's not ceremonial: the Junior Minister sits in on select Ministry engagements and represents youth perspectives on energy issues.

Do I need to be an expert in energy to apply?

No. The Ministry is looking for genuine interest and initiative, not credentials.

Do I need my school's support to apply?

Yes. A school recommendation letter is required for Phase 1.

I'm under 18. Do I need parental permission?

Yes, a parent or guardian must co-sign your application.

How long does the term last?

This is an annual selection. The term begins the first Monday of January.

When is the winner announced?

Day 2 (tentative) of the Ministry's Energy Summit.

What happens in Phase 2?

Three shortlisted applicants present for 5 minutes and answer an unseen question from a review panel at the Energy Summit, after identifying a real energy problem in their school or community and proposing a solution.

Each school is only allowed to nominate one candidate. After that selection process, the following is required for submission to info@meuabah.com

A recommendation letter from the candidate’s school.
A 500-word statement answering why you want the role.
A short video (60s-90s) answering the question, “What is the biggest energy challenge facing young Bahamians?”
